ABA Services Built Around the Person

Understanding ABA
Meaningful support for everyday life
Applied behavior analysis, or ABA, helps us understand how learning and the environment influence behavior. Through observation, assessment, collaboration, and ongoing data, we learn about each person's strengths, communication, needs, experiences, and daily life.
ABA at Footprints is not about changing who someone is or teaching everyone to behave in the same way. We work with families to reduce barriers and build communication, safety, confidence, participation, self-advocacy, and independence.
Areas of support
Goals shaped around what matters
Communication and Learning
Functional communication, play, learning readiness, flexibility, and navigating change.
Daily Living
Self-care, toileting and sleep-related routines, safety, and growing independence.
Connection and Participation
Social connection, coping and regulation, self-advocacy, and participation at home, school, and in the community.
Some needs involving sleep, feeding, toileting, medication, or other health concerns may require coordination with qualified medical or allied-health professionals.
Individualized from the beginning
No two programs should look exactly alike
Recommendations reflect the person's age, development, communication, interests, strengths, needs, culture, family priorities, environment, assessment results, and authorized services.
Families receive clear information and participate in decisions. Whenever possible, we also seek and respond to the preferences, communication, comfort, and engagement of the person receiving care.
Progress is more than data alone
We consider whether goals remain important, teaching approaches are acceptable and practical, and changes are making a meaningful difference in everyday life.
As needs and priorities evolve, we listen, review progress, and adjust the plan together.
What services may look like
A connected process centered on the person
1. Assessment and Planning
Interviews, observation, record review, direct assessment, and established tools help identify strengths, needs, priorities, and meaningful goals.
2. Direct ABA Services
A clinician or behavior technician supports individualized learning through everyday activities, adjusting teaching to engagement and progress.
3. Caregiver Partnership
Families help shape goals, observe and practice strategies, participate in coaching, and share what is or is not working.
4. Clinical Guidance
A supervising clinician oversees the plan, reviews progress, supports the care team, and collaborates with other professionals when appropriate and permitted.
Parent and caregiver participation
Families are essential partners
Footprints strongly encourages active participation. Families bring essential insight and help skills become useful beyond scheduled sessions.
For home and community services involving a minor, a parent, legal guardian, or approved responsible caregiver must remain present and available throughout the session.
Reviewing progress together
We listen, learn, and adjust
The team considers treatment data, direct observation, family feedback, and the person's experience and engagement.
When something is not working, we do not simply continue because it appeared in the original plan. We work together to understand what needs to change.
